June 29, 2013...Saturday

It's a rainy morning in Gainesville, Florida...and a busy day ahead

This morning, I drove to the Doris to retreive three paintings that had been a part of an exhibition that ran through most of the month of June.

On June first, another Saturday morning, I had participated in a plein air outing sponsored by GFAA.  We had the opportunity to paint either the Historic Duck Pond neighborhood, Pleasant Street district, or the Matheson Museum.  As I am very familiar with Duck Pond neighborhood, or as I call it "the hood", I wanted to paint in that neighborhood.  I love the old, broken down houses, the restored beauties, and area in general.  I park my vehicle in the hood...Monday thru Friday as I work close by.  I am drawn to the not so pretty, but to the older, decaying houses.  So, I did two paintings of houses that had seen better days, and one painting of a restored bungelow.

Two of the paintings, I did in the comfort of my home.  I didn't whip them out in a day...try a few weeks.  The angles were the challenge because I didn't want to paint a portrait...I wanted the angles...the curves...the challenge!  And they did not disappoint!

I painted a little 8 x 10" on site.  Painting in acrylic outdoors was a test of painting quickly and trying not to let the paint dry too fast on my palette.  I covered those globs of paint with medium and sprayed the palette frequently with mists of water.  I already had my image drawn in and underground colors placed on the gessoboard.  So...I was ready to paint.  It turned out well, and I enjoyed painting outdoors.  I think that I'll do more of this!

I do not have images at this time as my paintings were basically straight off the easel and into the show.  Hope to shoot some good pictures of them either this weekend or next, and be able to post them in the near future.

at the Doris

Through out the month of April, nine of my paintings are being exhibited at the Doris, located in downtown Gainesville.  I selected a specific theme so that all the paintings would be related and cohesive.  They are paintings of the springs here in North Central Florida.

If you are unable to visit ... below are the images of the paintings

This painting is untitled.  The waters of the springs are so clear that you
can see through to the bottom.  The view is as one standing on the edge of Rum Island looking towards the Santa Fe River.  I enjoyed the concept of looking through the water to looking at the reflection of the sky seen in the water surface, earth and sky.

This painting is conceived from the images of the headspring of the Itchneetucknee River.  A beautiful pool of gorgeous colors, cool waters surrounder by lush vegetation.  A very popular place during the summer months.

View of the Itchneetucknee River looking Southward.  A painter's discretion of eliminating tubers and other swimmers and anything else that breaks the serenity of the atmosphere of this place.

Two very young girls enjoying a summer vacation at the headspring of the Itchneetucknee River

There were lots of children and adults enjoying the cool waters and ample areas to swim and jump into the Blue Hole Spring in Gilchrist Co.
A feast for an artist who likes to paint people, that would be me!  I have a wealth of material to work from...plus how enjoyable to wade in the chilly water with that hot, Florida sun baking the top of you.

Kayaking down the Itchneetucknee River.  My husband and I are planning on doing just that ourselves in the next couple of weeks.  A very enjoyable and delightful way to spend a day!

A group of friends cooling off and enjoying each other.

The treasure seeker, I don't know if she was looking for minnows or other small creatures, but she was quite intent in her search.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, 2012

On the eve of another Christmas, 2012, time swifting going on.  On the eve of another year closing, and a new beginning year, 2013.

No stopping the hands of time....

Time to rummage through the closets and attics, pull out the Christmas decorations, tree, lights, ornaments, saved from last year cards, some things new, some old, some things returned to the closet to wait another year...a little picture here and something there...just to make the house look warm and inviting...the colors of Christmas

Working on the menu for the days ahead, shopping, and re-shopping for items missed on the lists.  Cards sent, gifts purchased, I'm done I think except for the cooking.  Now, comes the relaxing, well, maybe

Just two quick days on the eve of, and then it is back to work and the daily routine.  Not really time to enjoy or relax; even though, every year the statements made...are I'm not doing this again, next year will be different, but it never is...always caught up in the rush of the season!

My Christmas paintings sitting on bookshelves with cards

A beauty from the land of Iowa

Last August, we took a vacation to visit family and friends.  In the midst of visiting, I am always on the lookout for anything visually appealing.  I took a walk in one of my favorite places.  In Ohio, I love to visit Clifton Gorge.  I've taken lots of photos and wish I would have taken more, but alas I didn't.  Currently, I am working on painting from Clifton, but today, I wanted to post a beauty from Iowa.

While visiting friends and taking rides into the country, they were gracious enough when I said stop, turn around, did you see that?  To turn around, and let me take photos to my heart's content.

There in the country, right outside of town, was a house converted into an antique shop with too much for the eye to take in, loaded with all sorts of eye candy to view...and an old, covered with rust vehicle!

Bullet holes in the windshield, sitting on top of cement blocks, an old gangster looking car!  My mind went to prohibition days, I thought of Bonnie and Clyde, and moonshiners, and bank robbers, and just a cool old car waiting all these years for the owners to return and the adventures to continue.

I just had to paint this car!  Problem with trying to paint a vehile covered in rust is that it just looks like a red vehicle when you're done painting it.
I may go back into the paintings, and paint the vehicle a different color so that I can capture the idea of a rusted beauty.

Here are my attempts (I don't think that I am done with these)

I think that the paintings are almost cartoonish.  BUT...there was a humor about the vehicle.  An old rusting bed frame was placed on the front with a lock to keep the hood closed.  The car did have a smile on it's face.  Just daring someone to shoot more of the window.  I just purily fell in love with this vehicle!

I have more images of it...whether I will do another portrait of it or put in a different scenario or landscape...who knows, but I am sure that I will return to this little beauty!

Millhopper Library

Beginning August 16th and ending in mid-October, nine paintings of mine will be hanging in Millhopper Library, Gainesville, Fl.  I am excited that they will be hanging on the walls, and I do hope that they will be received with interest.

I've titled the show "Cruising with the Oldies"

It was a pure delight to paint the vehicles.  The show includes the previous six paintings and the three shown below.

I am stoked about painting vehicles so I'm always on the lookout for anything interesting that drives by me, or passes me, or is sitting in a lot just waiting for me to scope it out.

Monday thru Friday, week in and week out as I am driving to work, I see this gorgeous motorcycle.  I just had to stop and take pictures.  This is my first painting of the Harley.  And I titled it, "Looking for Adventure" and as the others, it is 11" x 14".

What kind of weird person is drawn to rusty vehicles?  Me!
We were driving down the road, and I glanced at a parking lot of a grocery store, and here was this rusty, rusty old truck, and I'm yelling turn around....I've got to take a look at that truck!!!!!!!!!

Hey, good thing that I had my camera with me!

"Truckin"....that's what I call it....yep, another 11" x 14" painting

Isn't she a beauty?  Look at all that rust!  I love it!

                          "Rusty Blue".....11" x 14"

Living in Florida, you don't see that many rusty cars...but I'm a lookin
